Where to look for Fossils at Shadwell Quarry?

(Collecting at Shadwell Quarry) - 2002

Shadwell is a large quarry with lots of areas to collect from. There are three main areas that are best, the first is along the top surface were weathering has left fossils scattered along the flat floor. There are many other types of shells too. The second area is along the quarry shelf, a walkway around the edge, but please keep away from the edge of the track way nearest the water as this quarry is very deep. You can collect from the rubble along the way and fallen rocks but keep well clear of the rock faces as these are unstable. There is another walkway around the bottom of the quarry where collecting can also be done. Giant corals can be found here as shown on the fossil photo page and fragments can be seen scattered around the quarry, but whole corals are quite common. The Wenlock Limetone here is highly fossilferious and you should come back with bags full!
